The DOTA 2 International 2017 has entered the last legs of the tournament phase. With Day 3 coming to an end, only 3 teams remain in the fray. The ultimate winner walks away with a $10.7 million dollars first prize! This leaves the participants with absolutely no room for any mistakes. The Grand Finale is only a matter of hours away, so let us take a quick look at the three champions that remain.
Our first team in question is a former International Winner! The Chinese team had won the International previously in 2014. What’s more, this year, Newbee has already booked its spot in the Grand Finals of the tournament. The team had beaten LGD.Forever Young in the upper bracket finals to advance to the Finals! With star support, Hu “Kaka” Liangzhi and carries such as Song “Sccc” Chun and Xu “Moogy” Han, Newbee has all the firepower it requires. Plus, their captain Zeng “Faith” Hongda is no pushover. For those who don’t know, Faith had won the International previously in 2012, with another team (read Invictus Gaming). The player has reached his second Grand Finale in years and is on the cusp of winning the International for a second time! But, the question to ask is will fate favour Faith this time?
LGD. Forever Young
The second Chinese team to remain in the competition, LGD Forever Young has been running on all cylinders since the group stage! Qualifying for the International 2017 through the regional qualifiers, no one expected this team to create wonders. But, since the start of the tournament, it has become every team’s worst nightmare. Sheer dominance in the group stages coupled with impressive plays coming in during the upper brackets phase of the main event, made LFY a crowd favourite. However, they were cut short by Newbee in the upper bracket finals and were pushed to the lower bracket finals. Here they will go up against European outfit, Team Liquid. LFY have a very talented roster. With a talented lineup featuring Leong “DDC” Fat-meng, He “Inflame” Yongzheng, Xie “Super” Junhao and Du “Monet” Peng, the team is led by Tue “ah fu ” Soon Chuan. This combination of raw talent and disciplined DOTA 2 make LFY a strong contender for the Aegis of Champions!
What more can be said of a team with a cumulative MMR of 43,840? Being, the only western team remaining in the tournament, Team Liquid, by far is also very talented! Given the skillset this team possess, it makes them a very tough opponent on paper. Entering the International 2017 as a direct invitee, Liquid proved its mettle in the group stage by securing the top spot in its group. Unfortunately, they failed to extend their dominance in the upper brackets of the main event after they faced an early defeat against Invictus Gaming. But, that did not ruffle the team, as they dished out some spectacular DOTA 2 in the lower brackets. Now, they stand just two matches away from lifting the coveted Aegis of Champions! But, their opponents, LGD.Forever Young and Newbee are no pushovers. However, with players such as Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen, Amer “Miracle-” Al-Barkawi, Maroun “GH” Merhej and Ivan Borislavov “MinD_ContRoL” Ivanov, the team has no dearth of talent. Under the watchful eyes of their captain, Kuro “KuroKy” Salehi Takhasomi, Team Liquid are relentless in their pursuit to reach the grand finals.
