The squads for the third edition of the Pakistan Super League announced amidst a host of cricket stars and fraternity at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on Sunday. The auction saw a total of 501 (308 foreign and 193 local) national and international players.

The fiery Australian superstar Chris Lynn and South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir headlined the player draft as top picks after they got picked by Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans respectively. At the auction for the third edition of PSL, where Islamabad United picked South African JP Duminy, former Aussie Captain Shane Watson went to Quetta Gladiators.

The third edition of PSL welcomed Shoaib Malik as a captain and Tom Moody as a coach for their new franchise called Multan Sultans. According to PSL guidelines, teams were allowed to pick one player each from Platinum, Diamond, and Gold categories, while selecting two each from the Silver and Emerging Players list to stack up to their squad with a maximum of 20 players.

The 2017 PSL champions Peshawar Zalmi with Windies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo will look forward to clinch the title one more time. Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by 58 runs to win the 2017 league.

Each team was sitting with a purse of USD 1.2 million. In Platinum, category players will earn between $140,000 and $200,000, while under Diamond category players had a minimum price of $70,000. The Gold category players had a minimum price of $50,000 and with a minimum cap for Silver category players and Emerging Category players were kept at $22,000 and $10,000 respectively.

Each team now has a squad of 20, having been given a salary cap of $1.2 million.
