From the opening whistle, one of the coldest teams in MLS played with pace and dismantled the very hot Whitecaps.The Montreal Impact was officially eliminated from the playoff race following Red Bulls victory against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Red Bulls clinched the last remaining playoff berth in MLS’s Eastern Conference and returned to the playoffs for the eighth year in a row.No other team in the Eastern Conference has made the playoffs more than three straight years.

While in the Western Conference the situation is quite different, where the Whitecaps lost an opportunity to pull away from the top. They still lead second-place Sporting Kansas City by three points.Vancouver is the only team in the Western Conference to have clinched a playoff berth in a wide-open race to the finish.

After Sporting KC plays Houston on Wednesday, every team will be even in 32 games. The Dynamo will be looking to open up a lead on the three other teams it is battling for the final two playoff berths in the Western Conference. As it stands now, just one point separates Houston, FC Dallas, Real Salt Lake and San Jose.

Sunday, October 22 will mark the final day of the MLS regular season. The playoffs will begin on October 25. The knockout games will take place on October 25 and 26.
