News: Francesco Totti, one of the top-rated Italian footballer, announced his retirement from the professional career. Totti played his final game on Sunday for the Roma Club. After completing a quarter century with Roma, the club that made him the most celebrated and beloved player in the club’s history, it was a gloomy moment for all the fans when he appeared in Roma jersey for the last time. It was Totti’s 786th appearance for the club.

The 40-year-old striker came into play as the second-half substitute in club’s final Serie-A game against Genoa.  Roma registered a 3-2 victory, making a memorable exit for Totti.

Totti made his debut at the age of 16, in a league match at Brescia on March 28, 1993. He went on to make 786 appearances in all competitions for Roma, scoring 307 goals, with 250 of those coming in Serie A.

The greatest player who ever wore the Roma jersey, and raised its profile, Totti refused to leave Roma, no matter how much money bigger clubs offered him.

The Phenomenon, the Captain, the Legend, as described by his fans, Totti spent his entire career at Roma, winning a Serie A title, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Supercoppa Italiana titles; he is the top goal scorer and the most capped player in the club’s history. He’s renowned for his vision, technique, and goal scoring ability, and is considered to be one of the greatest Italian players of all time.

After the game, Totti took a victory lap around the stadium accompanied by his wife and three children, including his son, Cristian, 11, who many hope might carry his father’s torch.

Totti could barely hold back the tears while reading the final goodbye speech. With his wife, three children and his teammates by his side, many sobbing uncontrollably. The fans, the Romans were all in mourning.  The Roma football won’t be the same without their hero.
