It seems that the former England skipper, Wayne Rooney has made-up his mind to leave Everton and join Major League Soccer side DC United this summer.
According to the BBC report, Rooney has an “agreement in principle” to join D.C. through the end of the 2020 season, and for the same Rooney’s representatives have been in the US to negotiate the deals. However, nothing has been signed yet but Rooney has entered into “serious talks” with D.C. United on a summer transfer. The Daily Mail reported late Wednesday that Rooney has told Everton he’s ready to sign a substantial deal with the MLS original club.
Rooney has a year remaining on his deal with Premier League side Everton, where the 32-year-old has spent much of the year playing midfield rather than the forward position from which he’s produced a legendary career.
England’s all-time leading scorer, Rooney would join a D.C. side that currently sit last in the Eastern Conference, but are set to move into a long-awaited new stadium, Audi Field, on July 14. They’ve been linked with several other marquee names, most notably Italian striker Mario Balotelli.
