With less than 3 weeks left as the 2017 MLS regular season is proceeding towards the final Decision Day. The month of October is full of thrill and excitement for the teams as well as the MLS fans. After spending the summer laying the groundwork for a playoff push, the Fall is when some teams either surge and clinch a post-season berth or totally collapse and start rebuilding for next season. Now it’s imperative for teams struggling under the red line to grab points. The 2017 edition of Decision Day will take place on Sunday, October 22 and can be seen live on DSport.
Final Push to Playoffs in Week 32 (Oct. 15, the penultimate weekend of the regular season) will see some tough rivalries. On Decision Day in Week 33 (Oct. 22, the final day of the regular season), all 11 matches will be played simultaneously.
Once again, the Sounders will host a crucial match on Decision Day that will likely to have postseason-seeding implications. The 2016 season will be remembered as the year when the Seattle Sounders finally got over the hump and won their first MLS Cup.
The Sounders are nearing their ninth consecutive post-season berth. By doing so, the club would have the longest active postseason streak in MLS and just one year shy of matching the MLS record (LA Galaxy – 1996-2005).This year’s opponent, the Colorado Rapids, currently occupy a tie for the last place in the Western Conference with 29 points and have posted a 1-13-2 mark on the road this season.

With Toronto FC running away with the Supporters’ Shield, the real fight is elsewhere in the standings. It’s in the middle of the conference tables where often the MLS champion emerges. Those teams will jockey for points and position over the next few weeks.
NYCFC earned a hard-fought draw in Bridgeview on Saturday night, holding on to their No. 2 seeding for at least a few more days. With the Supporters’ Shield now securely in Toronto, Patrick Vieira’s team are chasing a Knockout Round bye afforded to the top two seeds in each conference. They’ll keep hold of their No. 2 seed for now after Atlanta fell 3-2 to Minnesota on Tuesday.
The Portland Timbers missed a chance to clinch their playoff spot in Week 30 by losing 2-1 to the Quakes, and they now find themselves in a three-way tie for second place in the West with Sporting KC and Seattle. Unfortunately for Timbers, Sporting KC has a game in hand, who finish their schedule with home games against D.C. United and Vancouver.
MLS has also announced dates for the 2017 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. Postseason action will kick off with Knockout Round matches on Wednesday, Oct. 25 and Thursday, Oct. 26 following the close of the regular season on Decision Day, set for Sunday, Oct. 22.
