The mega football celebration is here! The 2017 MLS All-Star Game will be the 22nd annual Major League Soccer All-Star Game.

The MLS All-Star Game is, like Major League Baseball’s summer classic, an annual exhibition game featuring some of the league’s best players. It’s happened every year since MLS’s inaugural season in 1996, though it has changed formats a couple times since then. It’s an annual soccer game held by Major League Soccer featuring selected players from the league against an international club. This year it will be against Spanish super club Real Madrid, an elite opponent fresh off a UEFA Champions League victory.

The Format of the Game

Initially, MLS adopted a traditional all-star game format used by other North American sports leagues where the Eastern Conference squared off against the Western Conference.

In 2003, the league inaugurated the format that has carried it through today: MLS vs. international clubs. That first year, the MLSers took on – and beat – Mexican giants Chivas de Guadalajara, and since then, they’ve taken on big-name English Premier League teams like Chelsea and Manchester United, Italian club AS Roma, and German heavyweights Bayern Munich, among others.

This year the tradition is bigger than ever: The MLS All-Stars will face off against iconic Spanish club Real Madrid.

The 2017 MLS All-Star Game will take place on August 2, 2017, at Soldier Field.

Players’ appointment and rules

Fans get to vote for 11 players, the Fan XI. Last year they voted for the team’s captain via Snapchat and their choice.

MLS Commissioner Don Garber adds two Commissioner’s Picks. Finally, the coach gets to name the final roster of 22 players.

It’s same like your regular football rules. It’s your standard 90 minutes, though there are extra substitutions allowed, as is normal for friendly exhibitions like this around the world.

The only rule change is that if the teams are tied after 90 minutes, the two teams will go straight into a penalty-kick shootout.

What extra will be there this year?

From the main event to blockbuster concerts, Men in Blazers All-Star Extravaganza presented by Etihad, live events and beach tournaments on the shores of Lake Michigan, All-Star week will showcase the best of North America’s exploding soccer culture. You just can’t afford to miss the fun!

The Men in Blazers are taking their show on the road again, and MLS All-Star 2017 is the destination.

Known for their intelligent take on global football, Rog and Davo will bring their live show to Chicago’s Harris Theatre for a unique, live-streamed event featuring guest appearances by MLS All-Stars and other prominent soccer figures.

MiB are set to join the festivities in Chicago ahead of the MLS All-Star team’s showdown with European champions Real Madrid, as Roger Bennett and Michael Davies host the Men in Blazers LIVE MLS All-Star Extravaganza presented by Etihad on Monday, July 31.

It’s the grand celebration of football so everything has to be point be it players’ jerseys or live concerts. The MLS-based players will be wearing the new Adidas jerseys while facing Real Madrid at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. The most unique aspect of the jersey will be the large stars and maple leafs that run down from the right shoulder. The jerseys will also have the Target logo in the centre and three red stars representing the motto “Club, Country, Community” on the top of the back.

DSPORT will live telecast the game. Stay connected for more MLS All-Star Game updates.
